Our History
The bird has changed the feathers! That's right - Cardinal Pediatric Dentistry is now Blue Jay Pediatric Dentistry. Just like the Blue Jay is known for its intelligence, energy, and vibrant presence, our new name represents the spirit of how we care for children every day—bright, attentive, and full of life. While our name is changing, our heart remains the same. Families will continue to see the same familiar faces, receive the same compassionate care, and experience the same commitment to clinical excellence that has always defined our practice.
This transition is more than a name change—it is a symbol of growth. As Blue Jay Pediatric Dentistry, we are building on our strong foundation to create an even more welcoming, engaging, and child-friendly dental home. Meet Our Team
Dr. Jayakumar Jayaraman
BDS, MDS, FDSRCS, MS, PhD
Dr. Jayakumar Jayaraman is a board-certified pediatric dentist, accomplished academician, and respected leader who is dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care for children and adolescents. Trained in India, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, and the United States, Dr. Jayaraman brings a unique global perspective and advanced clinical expertise to pediatric dentistry. He holds two doctoral degrees—one focused on clinical training and another in research—reflecting his strong commitment to both patient care and scientific advancement. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications and book chapters in the field of pediatric dentistry. In addition to being an excellent clinician known for his gentle, compassionate and child-centered approach, he actively serves the profession through leadership roles, including President of the Virginia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys learning to fly airplanes, cooking, traveling, and participating in adventure sports, reflecting his passion for lifelong learning and new experiences!
